Aribado blanked South Korean Boram Ryoo, 11-5, 11-9, 11-6, to barge in the women’s finals, while Begornia had to settle for the bronze-medal honors after yielding to Malaysian PNG Nickhileswar Moganasundharam, 13-11, 11-8, 1-11, 11-9, in the semifinals.

The 31-year-old Aribado arranged a finals showdown with top seed Erisa Sano of Japan. The PH bet, a Southeast Asian Games multi-medalist, had earlier dismantled Yvonne Alyssa Dalida, 11-7, 11-6, 11-8, in the quarters.

Begornia, for his part, earned an opening-round bye and went on to outlast Jonathan Reyes, 11-7, 11-6, 11-8, before losing in the semis.

Moganasundharam, meanwhile, battles South Korea’s Oh Seojin for the men’s gold medal.

Up next for the Filipino bets will be Challenger Classic on Monday, Oct. 28, at the same venue with Christopher Burage expected to lead the crew.

The PH team will be competing under Malaysian mentor and former women’s world No. 5 Wee Wern Low.
