The Marikina City local government raised the 1st alarm at the Marikina River on Thursday, October 24, due to continuous heavy rains brought about by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
According to Marikina City Rescue 161, the city's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), the water level of the river reached 15 meters at 6:54 p.m.
Once the water level reaches 16 meters, the 2nd alarm will be raised.
If the river’s water level reaches 18 meters, this will trigger the 3rd and final alarm, enforcing forced evacuations in all affected areas.

Meanwhile, Congresswoman Maan Teodoro urged residents in low-lying areas, especially seniors and persons with disabilities (PWDs), to conduct preemptive evacuation for their safety.
She assured Marikeños that the city’s evacuation centers are ready and well-prepared to provide a comfortable and safe shelter for everyone.
She added that the situation would be monitored throughout the night, and all rescue teams remain on high alert, ready to respond to any needs.
