Female radio anchor gunned down in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY - A female radio broadcaster was gunned down in Barangay Tumaga here on Tuesday, Oct. 22, by her own cousin due to a land dispute.

The victim Maria Vilma  Rodriguez, 56, was a radio anchor for Emedia Network.

Police  said that the victim was sitting on a bamboo chair inside a store with her mother, sister, and nephew when the suspect appeared and shot her repeatedly.

The victim was brought to the Zamboanga City Medical Center where she was declared dead.

Police  arrested the suspect, Jonathan Rodriguez, in a manhunt operation.

The victim was engaged in an arbitration hearing with the suspect in their barangay where a CCTV camera reportedly caught the suspect threatening his cousin.

Rodriguez’s colleagues said that she had been receiving death threats prior to the incident.
