Laguna 1st district Rep. Ann Matibag can't help but feel proud of presidential son, Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos for defending his family from the unsavory remarks made by Vice President Sara Duterte.

"I hold him in the highest regard as a true leader who seeks to serve, not be served," Matibag, vice chairman of the House Committee on Women and Gender Eiquality, said of Rep. Marcos on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

"I’m sure his grandfather and father are immensely proud of the man he has become. As a LaguNanay, and speaking for mothers everywhere, we would definitely love to have a son like him and wish for our own sons to grow up with his values and character, despite being the son of a President of the Philippines," she said.

"His humility, integrity, and sense of service set a remarkable example for the next generation," Matibag further said.

Earlier Tuesday, Rep. Marcos issued a statement slamming her "bizarre temper tantrum" and the "abhorrent comments" she made about his father, President Marcos and his late grandfather, President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

"For all this time, I have held my tongue out of respect for the Vice President given the mandate she was given and the responsibility which her office holds," Rep. Marcos said.

"However, as a son, I cannot stay silent while she threatens to exhume a former president and behead an incumbent one. Besides, her bizarre temper tantrum has been condemned by a nation horrified from such displays of insensitivity towards the dead and cruelty to the living," said the senior deputy majority leader.

"Forget that the objects of her derisions are dear to me, but I would also be remiss in my responsibility as an Ilocano representative if l didn't voice out my disdain at the abhorrent comments she so carelessly uttered,"  he added.

Matibag attested to the Ilokano's humility and his down-to-earth nature as one of the leaders of the current 19th Congress.

"From the first day I met him in Congress, I was struck by his humility. Instead of requesting special favors, he lined up at the buffet like everyone else.

"Our batch of neophytes was trained to be punctual, and we always found him already present at plenary sessions, leading by example. Unlike many, he wasn’t surrounded by large security details. Instead, he would tap us on the shoulder, ask how we were, and offer help, showing genuine care," she shared of the 30-year-old congressman.

"This stands in stark contrast to some other public servants, even those who, like him, come from prominent families," the Laguna lawmaker said, without mentioning anybody in particular.

Matibag further said that Rep. Marcos "embodies the qualities of a true gentleman both inside and outside the halls of Congress, with a deep respect for the law and strong moral principles that, I believe, were instilled in him from childhood".
