Kinder to Grade 12 classes suspended in Quezon due to ‘Kristine’


LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council suspended classes from kindergarten to Grade 12 in private and public schools in Quezon on Tuesday, Oct. 22, due to tropical depression “Kristine.”

However, classes were not suspended in the second district – Lucena City, Sariaya, Candelaria, Tiaong, San Antonio, Dolores, Lucban, and Tayabas City.

The PDRRMC reminded local and school authorities and the people to always check the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration for information, guidance, and appropriate action on Kristine.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard-Southern Quezon temporarily suspended sea voyages within the area of responsibility of Coast Guard Station-Northern Quezon on Monday, Oct. 21, as tropical cyclone wind signal No. 1 was hoisted in this province as Kristine approached.

A notice to mariners was issued at 5 p.m. over the northern portion of Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta, and Real), including Pollillo Group of Islands, in accordance with the HPCG Memorandum Circular 02-23 entitled “Revised Guidelines on the Movement of Vessel During Heavy Weather” dated March 23, 2023.

All vessels were reminded to take precautionary measures and be extra vigilant in monitoring the movement of Kristine if deemed to be affected by the weather disturbance. 

Voyages will resume until further notice and upon improvement of weather and sea condition.

Vessels that intend to take shelter shall be permitted as long as it is manifested through a written request and no passenger and cargo will be allowed on board.

Voyages may be allowed in the main supply routes and special areas under the conditions set forth by the NHQ-PCG MC 02-23 as verified by Coast Guard Station-Northern Quezon.
