Taguig employee, tricycle driver oppose transfer of voter registration of Lino Cayetano

An employee of the Taguig City Hall and a tricycle driver opposed the transfer of the voter registration of TV director and former mayor Lino Cayetano who is running for congressman in the 1st District of Taguig-Pateros in the May 12, 2025 national and local elections.

In 2013, Lino Cayetano was elected congressman of the 2nd District of Taguig and served for one term.

He is now running for congressman of the 1st District against incumbent Rep. Ricardo “Ading” Cruz Jr., the candidate endorsed by his brother, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, and sister-in-law, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano.

In a Facebook video, Lino Cayetano said an employee of the city hall and a tricycle driver have questioned the transfer of his and his wife Fille’s voter registration before the Election Registration Board (ERB).

Under Comelec Resolution No. 1-963, “Application for transfer of registration record from another city/ district/municipality /foreign post shall be subject to notice, hearing and action of the ERB.”

The ERB in Taguig held a hearing about the opposition with Lino Cayetano present.

While it is not a disqualification case, he said the opposition is meant to prevent him from running for congressman in the 1st District.

“Kaya nga po kami ni Fille yung pinatawag kasi kinukwestiyon yung paglipat namin, pag-transfer namin (That is why Fille and I were called because our transfer is being questioned),” Lino Cayetano said in the video.

He said that according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), there are 30,000 new voters and transferees in Taguig. Out of the 30,000, only five are facing protests including him and his wife.

Lino Cayetano faced the two opposers during the ERB hearing. The city hall employee and Lino Cayetano live in the same subdivision.

“Hindi niya raw ako nakikita doon (He/she claims he/she doesn’t see me there),” he said, adding that the two do not have any documentary evidence to back their claims.

He added, “Fille and I have had a place there for years.”

Lino Cayetano cited what happened in 2019 when his sister-in-law, Lani Cayetano, ran as representative in the 2nd District of Taguig and his brother, Alan Peter Cayetano, ran for congressman in the 1st District.

“Mag-asawa ho, ibang distrito. As long as you establish a clear residency, walang problema ho iyan,” he said.

The camp of the two opposers even called witnesses to support their claims.

“Ang nakakatawa, yung witness ho, hindi kilala yung nagkaso. Sino ang mastermind kumbaga? (What is funny is that the witness doesn’t know the ones who filed the case. Who is the mastermind behind this?” he said.

Lino Cayetano also denounced the spread of fake news against him and the holding of meetings attended by Taguig City hall employees.

He said he is sure that his sister-in-law Lani Cayetano and brother Alan Peter Cayetano are not behind the demolition job against him.

In addition, he said that some people are planning to file a disqualification case to prevent him from running as congressman in the 1st District.

Besides Cruz and Lino Cayetano, also running as congressman in the 1st District of Taguig-Pateros is Engr. Allan Cerafica.
