Role of Iloilo City mayor’s daughter questioned anew

ILOILO CITY – The role of Raisa Treñas-Chu, mayoral candidate and daughter of Mayor Jerry Treñas here, has been questioned anew.

Chu has been taking a forefront role in public functions despite no longer having an appointive position in the Iloilo City government when she resigned on Oct. 7, the day before she filed her Certificate of Candidacy for the May 2025 elections.

Her presence was questioned as Mayor Treñas has been on medical leave since late September for surgical procedures in Manila.

Chu has been criticized for taking the role of acting mayor instead of Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon when she is no longer in government.

The official Facebook page of the Iloilo city government referred to Chu as executive assistant when she no longer held the post during the 100-day countdown of the 2025 Dinagyang Festival last Oct. 18.

Chu said she was invited by the festival organizer and that she was asked by her father to officiate the countdown.

She also attended key public functions this month, including the inauguration of the Visayas Container Terminal at the Iloilo Port, the blessing of the renovated building of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), and the Milo Marathon after filing her candidacy.

Chu spoke to key officials of Metro Pacific Iloilo Water last week during the city’s water crisis.
