Man strikes police officer on forehead with metal pipe


A 35-year-old man struck a police officer on the forehead with a metal pipe while being arrested for alarm and scandal in Binondo, Manila on Sunday, October 20.

The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the suspect as Moktar Rasjid, a resident of Tondo, Manila.

Based on the initial investigation, the police officers were conducting mobile patrol in the area around 2:20 a.m. when a staff of a nearby convenience reported that the suspect was shouting while wielding a metal pipe, causing fear and alarm to the passersby and customers. 

Police officers Rommel Garcia, John Robert Taopo and Jefferson Lising arrived at the scene and saw the suspect carrying his weapon.

During the arrest, the suspect immediately struck Garcia with his metal pipe that caused laceration on his forehead.

Although injured, Garcia successfully seized the steel pipe from the suspect with the help of his fellow police officers.

The suspect will face charges for violation of Article 148 of the Revised Penal Code (Direct Assault) and Article 155 (Alarm and Scandal).
