Finals MVP Duane “Kelra” Pillas thought it was another wasted effort as his team, Fnatic Onic Philippines, looked on verge of a big collapse in the grand finals of the MPL Philippines Season 14.

Memories of the past heartbreaks immediately flashed back to Kelra as the Sonics were dragged into a deciding Game 7 even after taking a commanding 3-1 series lead.

And then there was self-questioning, asking if he was really meant to become a champion.

“Tumatakbo non sa isip ko akala ko di talaga para sa akin yung championship,” said Kelra.

“Kumbaga dapat tapos na namin yung Aurora nung game 5, bugbog na yung Aurora pero na-comeback kami, tapos na comeback uli kami nung next game,” he added.

And that was why when Fnatic Onic finally pulled through the crucial base defense and turned the tides late in Game 7. When the game finally declared their victory, Kelra just couldn’t help but to be overcome by emotions.

“Tumatakbo talaga sa isip ko non parang may curse ba sa akin? Basta pagkapanalong pagkapanalo, naiyak talaga ako,” who cried unabashedly on his seat while the rest of his team was jumping crazily in jubilation.

“Di pala totoo ‘yung curse na ganun. Akala ko mangyayari uli yung laban sa Blacklist na laban namin nung Season 7, 3-1 tas nacomeback kami,” he added.

“Sobrang dami na rin kasing pinagdaanan eh kaya sobrang naiyak talaga ako,” shared Kelra.

There was no doubt it was the best season not only for Kelra but for the rest of the Onic franchise, which after three runners-up finishes in the past, finally copped its first-ever MPL PH crown.

And FNOP did it in a dominating fashion highlighted by their record 12-0 win streak in the regular season.

“Ito rin yung pinaka naenjoy ko sa ml career ko kasi parag mind games talaaga yung naging laro, from sa draft palang hanggang sa laro talagang sasakit talaga yung ulo mo,” said Kelra.

“Iniisip na lang namin nun, no regrets tapos yung hero namin kanya kanyang pick na lang kami non eh parang best hero versus best hero bahala na kung anong mangyari,” he added.
