Police discover P10-M marijuana in Kalinga


TINGLAYAN, Kalinga – Police discovered fully grown marijuana plants worth P10 million in Barangay Loccong, Tinglayan, Kalinga, on Friday, Oct. 18.

Police Col. Gilbert Fati-ig, Kalinga police chief, reported to Police Brig. Gen. David Peredo Jr., Police Regional Office-Cordillera chief, that 50,000 fully grown marijuana plants were destroyed on site.

Fati-ig also reported to Peredo that the Pinukpuk Municipal Police Station in Kalinga arrested a suspected drug pusher during the implementation of a search warrant in his house in Barangay Pinococ.

Recovered from the 29-year-old suspect was suspected shabu weighing 5.2 grams worth P35,360.00.

Benguet

Meanwhile, the Benguet Police Provincial Office also discovered and destroyed marijuana plantations in Bakun and Kibungan, Benguet on Oct. 18.

Police Col. Joseph Bayongasan, Benguet police chief, said 2,600 fully grown marijuana plants worth P520,000 were found in three plantations in Sitio Legleg, Barangay Palina, and Sitio Laceb, Barangay Tacadang, Kibungan.

Bayongasan said 1,906 fully grown marijuana plants valued at P381,200 were found in four plantations in Sitio Lepsik and Sitio Tamangan, Barangay Kayapa, Bakun.

He said all discovered marijuana plants were documented, uprooted, and burned onsite with enough samples taken to the Regional Forensic Unit-Cordillera Administrative Region for analysis.
