Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos flew to Jakarta on Saturday evening to attend the inauguration ceremonies held at the People's Consultative Assembly / House of Representatives Building in Jakarta.

Indonesian Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming was also inaugurated on Sunday.

"I congratulate President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka on their inauguration in Jakarta today," Marcos said in a statement.

"As a fellow founding member of the ASEAN, Indonesia is one of the Philippines' long standing partners and closest friends in the region. I reaffirm our nation’s desire to further strengthen our bilateral ties with Indonesia on this momentous occasion and in lieu of our diplomatic relations’ 75th anniversary in November," Marcos added.

According to Malacañang, Marcos has no other activity in Indonesia aside from the inauguration ceremony.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said on Saturday that the First Couple's attendance was upon the invitation of outgoing Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Marcos and Prabowo met in Malacañan in September where both leaders affirmed their commitment to boosting the ties between the Philippines and Indonesia.

During the Indonesian leader's visit, Marcos emphasized the "very strong level" of political and diplomatic ties between the neighboring countries.

The Indonesian President's inauguration took place exactly a month after he visited Manila, which was, according to him, an "Asian custom" before assuming a position.

"I came here today to pay my respects because exactly one month from now, on the 20th of October, God willing, I will be inaugurated as President of the Republic of Indonesia," he then told Marcos.

"And perhaps it’s the Asian way, our custom, before we enter into a new position. We call on our friends," he added.
