Leonardia running for congressman of Bacolod


BACOLOD CITY – Former Bacolod Mayor and Rep. Evelio “Bing” Leonardia is running for congressman of this city’s lone district.

Leonardia was the first candidate to file a Certificate of Candidacy here on Tuesday, October 1.

The former city chief executive, clad in red, with his family and supporters, heard Mass at the San Sebastian Cathedral here then proceeded to the Commission on Elections-Bacolod to file his COC.

Leonardia, who is running under the Nacionalista Party, said that he thoroughly planned his decision to run for Congress.

He said that he filed his COC without a slate and is happy that his supporters remained with him. They are his source of inspiration and strength, Leonardia said.

Meanwhile, lawyer Caesar Distrito, spokesperson of Mayor Albee Benitez here, said that Benitez said that he is 90 percent sure that he is inclined to run for congressman.

Distrito said that Benitez’s Asenso Bacolod Team will file their COCs in the last day of the filing on October 7 with a complete slate.

Leonardia said that “only time will tell” when asked of his chances of winning against Benitez. He lost to Benitez for mayor here in the last elections.
