Arthur Nery reveals he once tried to join a boy group
At a glance
Known for his soulful and poetic songs, singer and songwriter Arthur Nery admitted that he almost joined a boy group during his early days as a performer.
"Ganito po kasi yun, we tried before ng mga friends ko, pero wala po talaga akong confidence. Alam ko po sa sarili ko na hindi ako kasing pogi ng SB19 or Alamat. Parang tinggap ko na po siya ng maaga na ako na lang mag-isa," Arthur said during the media conference for his new concert and album held at Boteyju restaurant in Estancia Mall on Pasig, last Sept. 27.
(It's like this: my friends and I tried it before, but I didn't have confidence. I know I am not as handsome as SB19 or Alamat. It's like I accepted during that time that I'm going to do this alone.)
Aside from admitting that he is an introvert, Arthur also highlighted that it's not just about the looks of becoming in a boy group, it's also about having the right personality to blend in.
'Yung pagbo-boy band, hindi lang about physical appearance. I mean, part na ‘yan kasi ‘di ka naman makakapasok kung wala kang appeal — at ibubuga. I think it’s more of a personality thing na you need to be able to blend in together to look good as a team," he added.
(Being in a boy band is not just about physical appearance. I mean, that's part of it because you can't get in if you don't have an appeal, and you'll be kicked out. I think it's more of a personality thing; you need to be able to blend in together to look good as a team.)
New concert
During the media conference, the singer-songwriter shared that he was also in shock when he was asked to do a concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
"Honest to God, ang sabi ko po sa kanila, sure po ba kayo? Kasi po ako I will never be prepared for an Araneta concert, like tinanong ko po ulit sila kung sure ba sila, it was a bit overwhelming but I have my family and team to support me," he said.
(I asked them again if they were sure. It was a bit overwhelming, but I have my family and team to support me. Honest to God, I said to them, Are you sure? Because I will never be prepared for an Araneta concert.)
Happening on Oct. 25 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, witness Arthur once again captivating the hearts of his fans at his upcoming concert.
This will be his comeback to the iconic venue after his sold-out show in 2022 at the New Frontier Theater. He is known for his chart-topping hits such as "Pagsamo" and "Take All The Love." The concert will likely showcase new tracks from his latest album, making it one of the most anticipated events in the OPM scene this year.
Arthur's new album "II: The Second" and concert solidify his status as one of the most exciting voices in Filipino music today. Fans are sure to enjoy a soulful blend of R&B, pop, and heartfelt lyrics that Arthur has become known for, as he continues to carve out his own space in the music industry.
