A retired seaman was arrested at a checkpoint in Las Piñas City for violating the gun ban and for having an expired permit to carry firearm outside of residence (PTCFOR) on Thursday, October 17, Las Piñas Police chief PCol. Sandro Tafalla said.
Tafalla identified the suspect as “Edward,” 48, who was arrested in Marcos Alvarez Avenue, Barangay Talon Singko, Las Piñas City.
Tafalla said Edward was flagged by officers during a routine checkpoint operation where he admitted to carrying a firearm with him.
The suspect presented his Taurus pistol to the officers but presented an expired PTCFOR.
The police chief explained that the gun ban was implemented in the National Capital Region (NCR) starting October 13 to 18 due to the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR).
Only law enforcement officers on official duty and in uniform are permitted to carry firearms during the said period.
