Water shortage hits Iloilo City, environs

ILOILO CITY – People here and neighboring towns are affected by a water shortage that started on Monday, Oct. 14, and ends on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Customers of Metro Pacific Iloilo Water in this city as well as the municipalities of Leganes, Pavia, and Santa Barbara have been relying on rations or purchases for their consumption.

MPIW claimed that its water supply fell by 40 percent as its supplier FLO Water Resources Inc. is conducting preventive maintenance.

With Iloilo City being the most affected, Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon held a meeting with MPIW executives.

MPIW Chief Executive Officer Angelo David Berba assured officials they are addressing the situation.

Metro Dumaguete Water, a sister company of MPIW, has sent tankers here to augment delivery for affected communities.

MPIW announced on Thursday, Oct. 17, that 30 water tankers have been mobilized in key  areas and conducting 100 trips per day.

“Due to elevation, location of some of our service areas and current conditions of our pipelines, there is a slow build-up of water pressure contributing to the delay of water availability in some areas,” MPIW added.
