Manila 6th district Rep. Bienvenido "Benny" Abante Jr. says it's up to former president Rodrigo Duterte as to which congressional inquiry he wants to attend regarding the alleged drug war killings during his administration.

“It’s up to him actually…Hopefully, he will come and say what he would like to say,” Abante said of Duterte.

Abante is a co-chairman of the House quad-committee (quad-comm), which has been investigating the extrajudicial killings (EJKs) being linked to the Duterte drug war.

Duterte last week expressed willingness to attend the quad-comm hearings in the House of Representatives, but only if he gets asked sensible questions.

The other legislative chamber--the Senate--has since made plans to launch an investigation of its own on the war on illegal drugs.

The likely panel to carry out the probe is the Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa-chaired Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs.

Dela Rosa, a close ally of Duterte's, even said that the former president was more likely to attend the Senate probe since the latter would be more comfortable in the upper chamber.

Despite some House members' concerns regarding the fairness of the Senate inquiry, Abante says that he welcomes it and that it will complement the ongoing House probe.

“In fact, sabi ng Bible, two is better than one. Eh ‘di partner na kami ng Senado when it comes to investigation,” he said.
