DOE: 19 RE projects to get grid impact study

The Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a system impact study (SIS) to 19 renewable energy (RE) projects that would evaluate a power grid’s capability to handle a new connection, such as power plants or large buildings.

The DOE has given endorsements to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), as 17 of them are considered renewable developments, while the other two are for the waste-to-energy and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.

Through this approval sent out last month, some of the notable projects include the 100 megawatts (MW) waste-to-energy facility under Manila Integrated Environment Corp., the 40 MW Laguna BESS project by Energija Sur 2 Inc. and the rest are wind and solar projects.

This includes the 1,000-MW Mindoro Offshore Wind Project of the Vortex Offshore Wind Corp, the 400-MW Ilocos Onshore Wind Project of WPD Philippines Onshore Inc., the 150-MW Antique Onshore Wind Project of First Gen Visayas Energy Inc., the 200-MW Cebu Wind Project of MC Project Solutions Inc., the Oriental Mindoro Wind Project of the Blue Circle Philippines Mindoro Corp, and the 50-MW Camarines Sur wind project of Citicore Wind Energy Corp.

Meanwhile, solar power projects are expected from Kanji Solar Inc. with its 70-MWp Isabela Solar Project and another Linglingay Power Corp’s 97.2 MWp solar project in the same area.

Additionally, more SIS have been granted to the North Luzon Green and Sustainable Energy Inc. with its 478.2-MW Pangasinan Solar Project, the Cthe 209.56-MWp solar project of Cleanergy 2 Inc., the albay-Sorsogon solar project of Exzal Renewable Energy, the Batangas Solar Project of Tuy Solar Power Corp., the 20-MW Tarlac Solar Project of Sta: Ignacia Tarlac Solar Power Corp., and the 79.96-MW Leyte Solar Project of Freya Renewables Inc.
