A total of 45 more overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) arrived in the country on Thursday, Oct. 17, after availing of the government’s voluntary repatriation program, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, who personally welcomed the OFWs at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), said those who arrived were the 73rd batch of OFWs since the government started the repatriation program late last year.

The 45 OFWs arrived at the NAIA Terminal 1 with two children via Kuwait Airways.

“This brought to a total of 525 OFws and 30 dependents who have been repatriated through the government’s voluntary repatriation program,” said Cacdac.

The Philippine government has started offering the voluntary repatriation program since the security situation in Lebanon worsened following the Oct. 7 attack in Israel last year.

The first 10 batches, composed of 37 OFWs, arrived in the country from October to November last year.

The repatriated OFWs are expected to receive financial and livelihood assistance from the government through the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
