Singapore reigns supreme: Filipinos’ top holiday destination revealed

As the holiday season approaches, Filipinos are gearing up for travel adventures, with Singapore emerging as the top destination of choice.

According to a recent survey by Visa, 38 percent of Filipino travelers have visited the city-state in the past year.

“Its close proximity to the Philippines, ease of access, and wide range of activities makes it an ideal choice, especially during the holiday season,” Visa said.

Closely behind Singapore, Hong Kong (31 percent) remains a popular destination, particularly for those seeking a combination of shopping and festive celebrations.

“Its expansive retail scene and diverse culinary offerings make it appealing to Filipino families seeking both luxury and bargain shopping experiences,” Visa said.

Japan, known for its picturesque landscapes and vibrant culture, also ranks high among Filipino travelers (30 percent).

Visa stated that Japan’s unique mix of tradition and modernity, as well as its shopping districts and lively markets, continues to attract Filipino visitors.

The survey, meanwhile, noted a shift in how Filipinos pay for their travels, with contactless payments becoming increasingly popular.

About 66 percent of respondents indicated a preference for using mobile wallets and tap-to-pay cards, while 71 percent still carry cash as a backup.

Filipino travelers are also prioritizing experiences over traditional sightseeing. In addition to exploring local attractions, 67 percent of respondents expressed a desire to experience local cuisine and dining, while 67 percent also prioritized shopping.

"As cross-border travel continues to grow, Visa sees a tremendous opportunity to remain a key part of the traveler’s journey,” Jeff Navarro, Country Manager for Visa Philippines, said.

“The convenience and security of digital payment options give travelers greater confidence when making transactions abroad—whether they are booking accommodation, dining, or shopping,” he added.
