Paris Olympian Hergie Bacyadan returned to action, but this time in a different sport after she ruled the K1 - 70-kilogram class of the 2024 Asian Kickboxing Championships in Phnom Penh, Cambodia over the weekend.

Bacyadan, 29, took the gold medal via abandonment after her rival Chinese Teng Jinwei begged off in the final.

The Kalinga pride was on a familiar place after she also competed in vovinam and wushu in the same country.

She also defeated hometown bet Raksa Samnang via a first-round TKO earlier with the latter and Kazakhtan’s Ergeshova Rashida settling for bronze.

Meanwhile, Jovan Medallo earned the nods of the judges to rule the men’s Musical Forms with Weapon and Musical Form Open Hand events where he outshone top performers from the region including Chinese Taipei and Indonesia.

Medallo also nailed bronze in men’s Creative Form with Weapon.

Carlo Von Bumina-ang bested his rivals in his lone appearance in the men’s Lowkick -67kg category, securing the gold over his foes who came from Central Asia, Jordan and Cambodia.

On the other hand, Gina Araos delivered the fifth gold thanks to her dominating performance in the women’s lowkick -56kg class while Honorio Banario took home silver in men’s -75kg K1 Male.

Other bronze winners were Renalyn Dacquel, Claudine Veloso, Whinny Bayawon, Lance Villamer, Daryl Chulipas, Felex Dave Cantores, and Janah Jade Lavador, who copped three bronze medals.

The Philippines concluded its stint with 5 golds, a silver and 10 bronzes.
