SPD ensures security for APMCDRR event

The Southern Police District (SPD) is fully prepared to ensure the safety and security of attendees at the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR 2024), which opened today, October 14, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), SPD director PBGen. Bernard Yang said.

A total of 269 SPD personnel were mobilized for the international event which will last until October 18.

Yang said police officers were deployed across various key areas which include the Multi-Agency Coordinating Center (MACC), Police Assistance Desks, the event venue, perimeter security, and mobile patrols.

Specialized units such as medical teams and EOD/K9 units are also  present to ensure a comprehensive security approach.

The APMCDRR 2024 conference, with the theme  “Surge to 2030: Enhancing ambition in Asia-Pacific to accelerate disaster risk reduction,” provides a critical platform for reviewing risk reduction efforts, sharing innovative solutions, and making actionable commitments aimed at minimizing disaster risks by 2030 in one of the world’s most disaster-prone regions.

To ensure a zero-incident outcome during the event, Yang has instructed all personnel to remain vigilant at their posts and to support their fellow officers, particularly those assigned to Police Assistance Desks, billets, and route deployments.

The director stressed that the SPD's goal is to maintain a zero-crime rate throughout the duration of the conference.
