Police seize 8,060 liters of smuggled fuel in Siargao


BUTUAN CITY – Police seized 8,060 liters of smuggled petroleum in Del Carmen, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte province before dawn on Friday, October 11.

Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office Director Police Col. Nilo T. Texon, in a report to Police Regional Office-13  Director Police Brig. Gen. Alan M. Nazarro, said they received a report that fuel was illegally being delivering in the area. 

Police, accompanied by the Bureau of Fire Protection and Philippine Coast Guard, PCG, proceeded to the area and apprehended three individuals after they failed to present proper documents from the Bureau of Energy Utilization.

The suspects yielded 8,060 liters of petroleum valued at P322,000, Texon said.

Texon assured continued vigilance against smuggling cactivities.

"We remain vigilant to respond to any situation, especially when complaints call our attention, and may this accomplishment serve as a pillar of example to others, to stop participating in all forms of illegalities, unrecognized barters, illegal trades, and unauthorized dispensing of products,” he said.

“Regardless of the costs you might lose, or how much you may gain, we will enforce our given mandate as the law provides." 

PRO 13-Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer said the suspects and confiscated petroleum products are under the custody of the Del Carmen Municipal Police Station.

The suspects face charges for violating Presidential Decree 1865, the Illegal Dispensing of Petroleum Products, Texon said.
