156 traffic violators nabbed in Surigao del Norte


BUTUAN CITY – Police apprehended 156 traffic violators in Surigao del Norte during a crackdown over the weekend.

Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office Director Police Col. Nilo T. Texon, in a report to Police Regional Office-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Alan M. Nazarro, said they were apprehended in checkpoints and patrols and P52,525 in penalties were collected from violators.

Violators were involved in accidents and operated colorum or unregistered vehicles, especially motorcycles that could be used in criminal activities, Texon said.

"Our preventive measures are crucial to maintaining road safety, reducing street crimes, and stopping the use of unauthorized vehicles by lawless elements," he said.

"We will continue to step up and intensify more in the enforcement of RA 4136, known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, to ensure the safety and security of the province’s roads," Texon added.

Violators are advised to pay their fines in their  treasurer's offices, PRO 13-Regional Public Information Office  chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer said.
