House Speaker Martin Romualdez has congratulated President Marcos for his productive participation in the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits held in Laos, wherein the latter displayed--among other things--his "strong leadership".

"The President's adept handling of the Philippines' ASEAN engagements has once again demonstrated his strong leadership and unwavering commitment to protecting and promoting our nation's interests on the international stage," Romualdez said in a statement.

“His engagements contributed towards expanded economic cooperation not only among ASEAN member states but also with its dialogue partners, which is expected to create more investment opportunities and jobs for Filipinos,” the leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives added.

ASEAN stands for Association of Southeast Asian Nations, of which the Philippines is a founding member.

Romualdez, Leyte's 1st district congressman, added that President Marcos played a pivotal role in discussions on strengthening ASEAN's collective response to natural disasters, an issue critical to the Philippines.

The Speaker commended President Marcos for his tireless efforts to elevate the country’s standing in ASEAN and beyond.

“The President’s leadership has once again secured vital agreements and strengthened our diplomatic relations, which will benefit the Filipino people for years to come,” Romualdez said.

The House leader was part of the country’s official delegation to Laos.
