Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Party-list Rep. Margarita “Migs” Nograles has filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for Davao City’s 1st district seat in the House of Representatives in what can be described as her family's comeback bid to local politics.

Rep. Nograles, a deputy majority leader in the House of Representatives, filed her COC on Tuesday morning, Oct. 8 at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office located at Magsaysay Park in Davao City.

The 1st district seat is currently held by reelectionist Paolo Duterte, son of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Since 2022, Rep. Nograles has served as the representative for PBA Party-list in Congress and advocated for youth empowerment, sports development, and grassroots programs. She quickly rose from the ranks in the House as assistant majority leader, then as deputy majority leader.

The lawyer-lawmaker emphasized her vision for a more inclusive and progressive first district, where the needs of the community come first.

Nograles is expected to campaign on a platform focused on people-centered governance, economic development, and youth and community engagement.

Filing his COC for city mayor the same day is former Davao congressman Karlo Nograles. He resigned as chairperson of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) on Monday.

The two Nogaleses are the children of the late former House Speaker Prospero Nograles.

The Nograleses and Dutertes are long-time political rivals in Davao City.
