10 Aegis Juris frat members guilty of Horacio Castillo's hazing death

Ten members of the Aegis Juris fraternity were found guilty of violating Republic Act 8049 or the Anti-Hazing Law over the controversial hazing death of University of Santo Tomas law student Horacio "Atio" Castillo III.

Based on the decision released by Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) 11 on Tuesday afternoon, October 1, the following members were sentenced to reclusion perpetua in prison:

  • Mhin Wei Chan
  • Axel Hipe Ralph Trangia 
  • Oliver Onofre 
  • Joshua Macabali 
  • Robin Ramos  
  • Marcelino Bagtang 
  • Hans Rodrigo 
  • Jose Salamat

Horacio Castillo was a 22-year-old freshman student at the university’s Faculty of Civil Law.

He died on September 17, 2017 from “severe blunt traumatic injuries” after allegedly undergoing three to four hours of initiation rites by the Aegis Juris fraternity.

The frat men pleaded not guilty during their arraignment in July 2018.
