ICYMI: Louis Vuitton's illusion boots will make people look twice

First seen on its fall-winter 2023 runway show, the boots are inspired by the Surrealist movement

For the longest time, fashion has seek inspiration from the beauty of the human form. Think of Schiaparelli’s spring 2021 couture line with dresses swelling with muscles or Filipino designer Cherry Veric’s embellished anatomy dress. The goal is to present the human body in the most imaginative way, whether it is by pairing a sculptural element with romantic tulle or adding a dose of sparkle to make an image less, well, scientific. The latest to take inspiration from it is luxury brand Louis Vuitton. But unlike the other pieces, the brand played with optical illusion through a literal recreation.

The French maison releases its newest footwear design, the Illusion Boots, available on its platform. First seen on its fall-winter 2023 runway show, the boots are inspired by the Surrealist movement. It’s made of calf leather, handpainted “to create a trompe-l'oeil of a black shoe and ribbed sock signed with the LV Initials.” The boots also come in ankle and knee-high heights and in two colors for wearers to match with their skintone.

Acoording to reports, creative director Nicolas Ghesquière aims to explore “the enigma of French style” and “its ineffable quality that has captured the imagination of many” through the collection. Priced at $2,470 (over P137,000), the boots are now available on the brand’s website.
