Stop it please: Honasan calls for ceasefire between Marcos, Duterte camps

Former senator Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan is calling for a ceasefire between the camps of President Marcos and ex-president Rodrigo Duterte following the recent political bickering between the two political groups.

Honasan explained that such public bickering will bring no good to the country, saying the effects of divided society, which has also dragged the military, are unacceptable to every Filipino.

“I humbly urge President Bongbong Marcos and former president Rodrigo Duterte to give even a little time for them to be together and engage in fruitful discussions to address the issues that the country is now facing,” said Honasan.

“I appeal to our national leaders to show sobriety and utmost level of patriotism and statesmanship for the sake of our children who always look up to us as examples of political unity,” he added.

Honasan, a four-time senator, ran under the Uni-Team of Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte during the 2022 national elections.

Amid the verbal tussles between the two political groups in the past months, Honasan emphasized his conviction that Filipinos possess the capability to lead their nation to prevent the consequences of fractured society.

“I have stood at the gates of the Presidential Palace in full combat gear many times in my life, both as a defender and attacker, driven by my conscience rather than an invitation or adventurism," he added.
