Philippine National Police Director for Police Community Relations Police Major Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo led the Day of National Remembrance for SAF 44 at The Manor in Camp John Hay here on Thursday, January 25, on the ninth anniversary of the operation.

A short program for the SAF 44 was held at the memorial dedicated to the 14 members of the unit from Cordillera who perished in the massacre.

"Let us not only remember the brave men of the SAF 44 but also reflect on the lesson learned from that tragic day. We must recognize the importance of unity, cooperation, and effective communication in our pursuit of national security,” Okubo, reading a message from PNP chief Police Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., said.

As we pay tribute to the SAF 44, let us all honor their legacy by rededicating ourselves to upholding the rule of law, defending our nation against terrorism, and promoting peace and stability in our communities, he added.

"Their courage and dedication to duty will remain forever in the history of our country. We owe them a debt of gratitude that will never be repaid," said Mayor Benjamin Magalong through City Administrator Engr. Bonifacio dela Pena.

The program was also attended by Police Brig. Gen. David Peredo Jr., PRO-Cordillera chief, and families and relatives of the SAF 44.
