Man drowns in popular Ilocos Sur waterfall

A 20-year-old man drowned in a popular waterfall in Barangay Babalasioan, Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur on Sunday, January 14.

Police identified the victim as Jay-Mark C. Cuaresma, 20, of San Manuel, Pangasinan.

Investigation disclosed that Cuaresma and his relatives attended a birth anniversary party in Sitio Paring, Barangay Babalasioan.

After the party, Cuaresma and his relatives visited the Pinsal Falls. The victim and his two companions agreed to dive in a deep portion of the popular tourist spot.

Only Cuaresma and a companion, Jay-R Cortel, jumped but the victim injured his right ankle and left wrist upon diving and drowned.

Cortel dove safely and unharmed.

The local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office recovered the victim’s body.
