Baguio logs 56.47% decrease in Yuletide crimes


BAGUIO CITY – Police here reported a 56.47 percent decrease in crime incidents during the holiday season.

The Baguio City Police Office Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS) said cases went down by 48 cases from December 21 to 31 compared to the same period in 2022.

Baguio City Police Office chief Police Col. Francisco Bulawayan Jr. said index crmes, particularly focus crimes such as murder, robbery, and rape, dropped by 33.33 percent.

According to him, this positive trend reflects the city's successful efforts in curbing major criminal activities.

He said non-index crimes, covering various illegal acts, went down by 14.29 percent, highlighting this city's comprehensive approach to law enforcement.

Bulawayan said the detailed breakdown emphasizes this city’s success in addressing major and minor offenses.

Traffic incidents also went down by 59.38%, contributing to an overall safer environment, he said, adding that special law violations dropped by 27.27 percent, demonstrating the effectiveness of proactive measures and law enforcement strategies during the festive season.
