It said that the false information is being spread by a fake Facebook page, “Marikeno pio,” which is pretending to be the official account of Marikina PIO.

"Marikeno pio" posted that classes in the city were suspended on September 23 and 24 due to a nationwide transport strike.

The post also claimed that the suspension was ordered by Mayor Marcy Teodoro, which the local government confirmed to be false.

It encouraged the public to stay alert and help fight fake news.

“Manatili tayong alerto at mapanuri laban sa mga impostor na Facebook account na ang tanging layunin ay manlinlang at mamerwisyo ng kapwa. Sama-sama na nating labanan ang fake news. (Let’s stay alert and discerning against fake Facebook accounts whose sole purpose is to deceive and cause harm to others. Let us work together to combat fake news),” the local government said.
