In a statement, DTBC Chief Executive Officer Olive Puentespina said that Mauricio’s seat in the board was part of an investment package of the government-owned NDC.

"We are happy to welcome GM Anton Mauricio as NDC's representative in the Board of Directors. NDC has been very supportive of DTBC from the start and now that we have NDC as officially part of our family, we believe DTBC is propelled to achieve more for the country," Puentespina added.

Puentespina said that Mauricio was selected by NDC to represent the firm at the DTBC board.

Mauricio’s entry to the waste management firm came after NDC invested P40 million in the company last year.

She added that the investment seeks to expand the plant and create a franchise model to replicate its bio-circular waste management technology in other parts of the country.

Puentespina cited a report from the National Solid Waste Management Council (NSWMC) stating that the country is now producing over 21 million metric tons of garbage annually. At least 50 percent of which is biodegradable waste, she added.

“This is both a challenge and an opportunity for DTBC’s green technology to significantly impact the country. DTBC’s leadership maintains its steadfast commitment to being a sustainable enterprise, a powerful catalyst for effectively managing Philippine ecosystems.”

The firm is currently processing 20 to 30 tons of biodegradable wastes per day and can produce 10 tons per month of different farm essential products, Puentespina said. "With NDC's investment, it will be easier for the facility to cater 30 to 50 tons biowaste per day in response to the high demand for biodegradable waste management in the private sector."

DTBC, established in 2015, is a circular biodegradable waste management company transforming waste into regenerative bioproducts.

For a fee, the firm caters industrial biowastes from business establishments in this city since it started operating commercially in 2017.

Puentespina said DTBC is an industry-scale provider of sustainable solutions through the use of a patented hyper-thermophilic aerobic composting that converts biodegradable waste into potent compost fertilizer within a fraction of the time that it takes landfills to decompose the same material.

“The result is the diversion of waste from the landfill and the creation of a super compost that aids in the regeneration of the soil, boosting agricultural yields to secure our community's food supply,” she added.

This Davao-based firm is the first and only waste management company in the country employing this patented technology.

Its pioneering and innovative project converts biodegradable wastes into biofertilizer which is being pushed as an alternative fertilizer to agricultural crops.

To date, more than 30 million kilos of biodegradable waste have been diverted from landfills and other traditional dumpsites to its composting plant in Barangay Binugao, Toril District, here.
