Angara convenes National Academy of Sports to tackle admissions, partnerships, and coach hiring


To discuss updates and address various challenges faced by the National Academy of Sports (NAS), Secretary of Education Sonny Angara met with the academy's officials in Pasig City.

Angara, who also serves as the NAS Chairperson, met with the NAS Board of Trustees during their 24th meeting at the DepEd Central Office.

Among the key topics discussed were the admission of new NAS applicants and partnerships with private companies.

The officials also addressed filling board vacancies and issues related to hiring sports coaches.

The meeting was attended by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Walter Francis Torres, who represented PSC Chairman Richard Bachmann, Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham Tolentino, Private Sector Representative John Patrick Gregorio, NAS Executive Director Josephine Joy Reyes, and Private Sector Representative Cynthia Tiu.

Established under Republic Act No. 11470, the National Academy of Sports (NAS) is an attached institution of the Department of Education (DepEd). It works closely with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to nurture future world-class Filipino athletes and boost youth engagement in sports.

The NAS aims to lead in global sports development and education, cultivating well-rounded student-athletes who possess the skills and passion to be sources of national pride.
