Former matinee idol Gabby Concepcion is thrilled to join his former wife megastar Sharon Cuneta in their concert dubbed "Dear Heart" which will kick off a US tour in October.

During an interview in Quezon City recently, Gabby hoped their daughter, actress KC Concepcion, could join the US tour.

“Based on the schedule, KC is not there. But it would be nice if she could join us. I was talking to her last night. If she ever does not join the tour, I hope we see KC before we leave," said Gabby when asked about her daughter joining the lineup in the US.

Gabby mentioned that the US tour would be memorable because his birthday falls in November. He said he stopped counting when he turned 32, adding that age is just a number. Gabby turns 60 on Nov. 5.

“Ever since I turned 32 last year, I don’t count anymore. Mahirap na. But for sure, my birthday this year will be really happy. I think this is one of my most exciting birthdays since it will be in the US, and we will go on tour."

Gabby wished to visit places in the US that he hadn't been to.

“I’ve done a lot of concert tours in the past, but this one has a lot of shows in its schedule. We will be away for more than a month. We will have rehearsals here before we leave, but we will also have rehearsals there when we arrive.

“I hope I get to visit those places, especially those hole-in-the-wall places and restaurants that I want to see,” he added.

Gabby admitted that the "Dear Heart" concert helped him realize he could sing.

“I cannot imagine it. I’m just acting it out. I hope my singing voice translates to my acting ability. I’m still not a major singer.

“I never thought I would become an actor. It was all an accident when I entered showbiz. I wanted to become a dentist or a pilot. At least I got to play those roles on TV and in films," Gabby said.

But Gabby revealed he is now color blind, which is why he wears a special pair of eyeglasses.

“There are grays that I still see. ’m not color blind entirely. That’s why I need to wear special glasses," he said.

After five years, Sharon and Gabby reunited for "Dear Heart 2023" at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Oct. 27. Another show was held in Cebu City.

The highlight of the evening was when Sharon and Gabby called their only daughter, KC Concepcion, to join them on stage.

Sharon said of KC: "She wasn't just thrilled. She had a wish and a dream, and we would like to fulfill that dream for her and maybe have the three of us stand here together - like the family we once were and always will be. Ladies and gentlemen, Maria Kristina Cassandra Cuneta Concepcion."

KC told the crowd that it was her cherished dream to see both of her parents on stage together. "Yung past, past na yun eh. What matters is yung ngayon at ang bukas. Parehas ko kayong mahal na mahal na mahal! You both are my dear heart."

Prior to the October 2023 concert, the last time Gabby and Sharon saw each other was at the Gabay Guro event hosted by PLDT in 2018.

The Dear Heart concert will feature musicians led by musical director Louie Ocampo for the US tour. The shows are presented by NY Entourage Productions, with Nancy Yang as the producer.

"Dear Heart" is the title of the 1981 blockbuster movie of Sharon and Gabby. They started dating while filming the movie. On Sept. 23, 1984, Sharon and Gabby got married. They have a daughter named Kristina Cassandra, popularly known as KC. In 1987, the couple separated. Their marriage was annulled in 1993.

Gabby said that he is happy now that he and Sharon are talking again.

“Alam mo ‘yung feeling na parang alon na sunod-sunod ang pasok ng waves? Gano’n ‘yung feeling. So many things are happening which we both never thought, would happen. Maganda ang feeling and I just hope it will never stop.

“I just hope the people in the US and Canada enjoy the shows. We are all in this together to reminisce and have fun. I want Sharon and I, the fans, the staff, and our long-time supporters to enjoy this tour. We are all eager to see each other," Gabby said.
