The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Tuesday, Sept. 17, that its key officials met with senior officials from the World Bank Philippines to review their collaborative efforts in addressing challenges in basic education in the country.
Led by DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, the meeting between DepEd and the World Bank took place on Sept. 16.
World Bank Country Director for the Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei Zafer Mustafaoglu, and World Bank Human Development, East Asia and Pacific Region Regional Director Alberto Rodriguez led the World Bank delegation during the meeting.
The key officials discussed the ongoing efforts of the two institutions in resolving basic education challenges.
During the meeting, Angara highlighted that digitalization is a key focus for the agency in addressing the gap in learning resources within the basic education system.
Additionally, DepEd and the World Bank discussed early childhood development and the agency's plan to decentralize the implementation of various DepEd programs, aiming to extend benefits to more Filipino learners.
