24 hurt in jeepney-SUV collision in Kalinga


TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Twenty-four persons, including a two-month-old baby, were injured in a collision between a passenger jeepney and sports utility vehicle (SUV) here on Sunday afternoon, August 11.

Police Capt. Ruff Manganip, spokesperson of the Kalinga police provincial office, said the jeepney with 21 individuals, including the driver identified as Reynold Palangya, overtook a vehicle that stopped but failed to notice the oncoming SUV.

The jeepney rammed the SUV, resulting in injuries to all the occupants of the PUV and the three people onboard the SUV, including the driver, Mark Buslig, a member of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The injured victims were taken to the hospital. Some individuals who sustained serious injuries were taken to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

Manganip said that the youngest victim was a two-month-old baby.

He added that the passenger jeepney was enroute to Pinukpuk, Kalinga from this city when the accident happened.
