The 49 barangays earned the drug-cleared status during the deliberation of members of the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC).

The deliberation was held on Wednesday, July 31, at the headquarters of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas (PDEA-7) in Barangay Lahug here.

Presided over by PDEA-7 chief Emerson L. Margate, the deliberation also saw the retention of status of 43 drug-cleared and 20 drug-free barangays.

Of the 49 barangays that earned drug-cleared status, 25 are from Cebu province, 12 from Bohol, eight from Negros Oriental, one from Cebu City, and three from Lapu-Lapu City.

Leia Alcantara, spokesperson of PDEA-7, said the process of validation and verification of drug-cleared and drug-free barangays ensures that the barangays have sustained their anti-illegal drug programs and new drug activities or relapse cases are immediately addressed.
