The entertainment industry mourns the loss of Hollywood star Donald Sutherland, a legendary actor who graced our screens for decades, following a long battle with illness. He was 88.

Donald's demise was confirmed by his son, actor Kiefer Sutherland, on social media on June 21. Kiefer also shared a photo of his father from his younger days.

Kiefer's announcement:

"With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film.

"Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived," Kiefer wrote.

Donald has 200 credits to his name. He was never nominated for an Oscar. But in 2017, Donald received asn Honorary Academy Award.

His last movie was "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" in 2023.

Born in New Brunswick, Canada, Sutherland began his career as a radio news reporter before moving to London in 1957 to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, according to BBC News.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recalled feeling "deeply, deeply star-struck" when he first met Sutherland, the BBC News reported.

"My thoughts go out to Kiefer and the entire Sutherland family, as well as all Canadians who are no doubt saddened to learn, as I am right now," he said.

"He was a man with a strong presence, a brilliance in his craft and truly, truly a great Canadian artist," he added.
