The Philippine National Police (PNP) has advised Cedric Lee and Ferdinand Guerrero to surrender peacefully following their conviction in a case of serious illegal detention for ransom that was filed by actor Vhong Navarro.
Lee, Guerrero, Simeo Palma Raz and model Deniece Cornejo were sentenced to 40 years of imprisonment by a Taguig Regional Trial Court on Thursday, May 2, following their conviction.
Raz and Cornejo were present during the promulgation and were immediately committed by the court while an arrest warrant was issued against Lee and Guerrero as they were not present during the hearing since they are covered by a bail bond.
The bail bonds for the four were already canceled by the court.
“The court has already issued an arrest warrant, so it will be in their best interest that they voluntary surrender in the nearest police station or they could get through their lawyers so they could arrange the possible surrender,” said PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo.
If they fail to do so, Fajardo said police operations will be conducted to comply with the order of the Taguig court that convicted them.
She said it would be advisable for the two to surrender and leave the legal process to take its course by filing their motion for reconsideration or appeal.
“They have the right to exercise and exhaust all legal remedies available to them to file an MR (motion for reconsideration) or appeal this came in the proper forum,” said Fajardo.
Aside from the PNP, Fajardo said they also expect other law enforcement agencies to run after Lee and Guerrero.
