Marcos: Photos with Guo prove nothing
At a glance
President Marcos said that photos of him with embattled Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo do not prove that he knows her and that the investigation into her citizenship continues.
Marcos said this after Guo uploaded photos of her and the President on Thursday, May 16, after the Chief Executive claimed that he did not know her. More photos of her and Marcos during one of the campaign sortees in 2022 also surfaced this week.
In an interview in Makati City on Saturday evening, May 18, the President said that he never declines requests for pictures.
“That proves nothing,” Marcos said of the photos of him and Guo that started to spread on social media.
“You know how many pictures I take during the campaign? Siguro isang libo sa isang araw. Lahat naman ng humihingi ng selfie hindi ko hinihindian (Around a thousand per day. I do not decline requests for selfies),” he added.
According to Marcos, the investigation into Guo’s citizenship continues, which stemmed from a probe into her supposed involvement in the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) in Tarlac.
“We have been investigating the now-defunct POGO installation… Hindi lumitaw yung issue ng citizenship. So yun ngayon ang tinitingnan natin (The issue of her citizenship did not come up. That’s what we’re looking into right now),” he said.
“We have ways to go dahil talagang hinahanap natin kung ano ba talaga ang totoo (We’re really trying to get to the bottom of it),” he added.
Meanwhile, the President asked the public to allow Malacañang and the Senate to continue their investigations.
“Let’s allow the Executive side and the Legislative side to continue our investigation. Wala pang definitive na (So far there are no definitive) conclusions,” he said.
