PNP readies teams to assist residents affected by Kanlaon eruption

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has mobilized sufficient number of personnel that would be deployed for the worse case scenarios of the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Occidental.

PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said those who are readily available for deployment are members of the search and rescue teams and other personnel who would assist the local government units (LGUs) in attending to the needs of their respective constituents.

“We have been monitoring this and even before, the PNP leadership has already reminded all police commanders to prepare for disasters especially with the start of the rainy season, and the eruption of Kanlaon,” said Fajardo.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised on Monday, June 3, Alert Level 2 over the Kanlaon Volcano after an explosive eruption was recorded.

Alert Level 2 indicates “current unrest driven by shallow magmatic processes that could eventually lead to further explosive eruptions or even precede hazardous magmatic eruption.”

On the part of the PNP, Fajardo said they are also constantly coordinating with concerned government agencies in connection with the Kanlaon eruption.

“We have units that are readily available for deployment. The PNP is ready to provide assistance to other government agencies, including the LGUs,” said Fajardo.
