Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval on Saturday, June 1, led the inauguration ceremony of the newly built footbridge and outpost located along Sucul Creek to ensure the safety of the city's residents.
The city government said that before the footbridge was built, residents had to ride a small boat to cross the river, paying at least P10 to P15 per ride.
In addition, the two-meter footbridge featuring a steel railing, streetlight, and measuring around 19 meters in length, aims to provide easier access to police and fire personnel to respond to emergencies such as fire and crime incidents in Barangay Tonsuya.
Meanwhile, the outpost was designed as a station for safety and security personnel who is in-charge to assists the community in maintaining peace and order in the barangay.
In her speech, Sandoval emphasized that the two new projects aims to ensure the safety and security of its residents.
"Atin pong binuksan ang dalawang proyektong pangimprastraktura bilang parte ng ating mga hakbang sa pagpapabuti ng seguridad ng ating mga kababayang Malabueño (We have inaugurated two infrastructure projects as part of our efforts to improve the safety of our fellow Malabueños),” she said.
“Ito ay ating isinagawa alinsunod sa ating layuning 'Malabon, Ahon' kung saan kasama sa ating pinagtutuunan ng pansin ay ang kaligtasan ng bawat isa sa anumang kapahamakan (This was done in line with our goal of 'Malabon, Ahon,' where one of our main focuses is ensuring the safety of everyone from any harm),” she added.
City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete said the city government focused to improve the lives and security of the Malabueños.
"The construction of these projects is a testament to the commitment of the local government of Malabon to intensify the safety and security of its residents. We ensure that our efforts will be focused on the people, the Malabueños and the improvement of their way of living here in the city," he said.
On May 6, the mayor also inaugurated various infrastructures such as the Muzon Dulo Basketball court and Muzon’s Multi-Purpose Hall in Barangay Muzon, Street alleys in Katarungan St., and Kaunlaran St., Phase 3, and the drainages around the areas.
The infrastructure projects aims to provide a space of the residents to participate in various activities of the local government and their barangays to practice a healthy and active lifestyle.
