The chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, has allocated P500 million to help ensure stable and more reliable power supply for the province of Albay in Bicol.

Ako Bicol Party-List Rep. Zaldy Co, committee chairman, says that his vision is to "to empower Albay by providing stable and efficient electricity supply".

"By improving our power infrastructure, hindi lang natin binibigyang solusyon ang issue ng brownout sa ating lalawigan. Bukod dito, nilalatag rin natin ang magandang kinabukasan sa pamamagitan ng pagpapalakas ng ating ekonomiya," Co said in a statement Saturday, May 25.

(We're not only providing solutions to brownouts in the province. We're also working for a better future by strengthening the economy.)

The second-term congressman said that doing so "will help attract new businesses, create jobs, jobs and more jobs".

Co gave this breakdown of the P500 million allocation: P300 million will be downloaded to the National Electrification Administration (NEA), while the remaining P200 million will be used for the completion of the rehabilitation of power lines, replacement of dilapidated reclosers, and upgrading of transformers.

He said two new power substations will also be constructed to enhance the Albay Electric Cooperative’s grid capacity and improve management and distribution of electricity.

These new substations are strategically planned to serve key areas in Albay. They are seen to reduce overloads and enhance the overall reliability of the transmission grid.
