NAST-Philippines warns public vs 'deepfake' video

Fake AI-generated video of its official endorsing certain product circulates


The National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines (NAST PHL) on Monday, May 20, warned the public against the circulation of an artificial intelligence (AI) generated “deepfake” video falsely linking one of its officials to a product endorsement.

In a social media post, NAST PHL clarified that its president and chair of the Health Sciences Division, academician Jaime Montoya is not associated with the product “Vitaman Plus” and assumes “no responsibility or liability" for any endorsement related to the said company.

NAST PHL urged the public to remain vigilant against disinformation to further avoid becoming a victim of fraud.

“We urge the public to rely on information from credible and verified sources to protect against fake news,” it added.
