5 dead in Metro Cebu road accidents


CEBU CITY – Five persons were killed in road accidents in Metro Cebu.

On Monday, May 6, a 24-year-old man was killed after he was hit by a wayward passenger bus in Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City.

The fatality was identified as Mark Anthony Mabayo, a resident of Barangay Jugan, Consolacion.

Police said that Mabayo was driving a motorcycle on M. C. Briones St. on his way to Consolacion when the accident happened at 5:25 a.m.

Investigation said a Ceres bus traveling on the opposite lane skidded towards the direction of Mabayo. 

The impact threw Mabayo off his motorcycle. The victim was taken to the Mandaue District Hospital where he died.

Police said a downpour may have caused the road to become slippery and caused the bus to skid. The Ceres bus was driven by Rodney Juanillo.

LILOAN

In Liloan, a 34-year-old man  died after the motorcycle he was driving rammed another vehicle past midnight on Monday.

Police said Deney Carado, a resident of Barangay Looc, Mandaue, lost control of the motorcycle and hit a private car in front.

Carado was badly injured as a result of the impact. He died while being transported to the Danao City Provincial Hospital.

SOUTH COASTAL ROAD

A 65-year-old woman was killed after she was hit by a trailer truck while crossing a bridge separating the cities of Cebu and Talisay on the South Coastal Road on Sunday morning, May 5.

Police identified the fatality as Consolacion Rosal, a resident of Talisay. The victim’s body was cut in half after she was run over by the truck driven by Gregorio Geoco, 47.

Geoco claimed that he did not see the victim crossing as his view was blocked by another vehicle in front. He said he only noticed that he hit something when he heard a loud thud.

He parked the truck by the road then rode a motorcycle taxi and surrendered to the Lawaan Police Station.

EXPRESSWAY

Two women died and 18 others were injured when a van-for-hire crashed on the Cordova-Cebu Link Expressway past 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Police said one of the van’s rear tires exploded that caused the vehicle to fall on its side.
