Fire destroys oil mill in Quezon


LUCENA CITY, Quezon – An oil mill here was destroyed in a fire on Thursday, May 2.

Lucena-Bureau of Fire Protection head Fire Supt. Rodel Nota reported that fire at the Holy Oil Mill started at around 4:25 a.m.

The fire reached the fourth alarm, prompting firemen from Tayabas City, Sariaya, and Pagbilao to respond.

The fire was declared under control around 8:30 a.m.

Arson investigation showed that the fire started from a stockpile of "palyat"  or copra (dried coconut meat) used in producing oil.

Damage to property was estimated at P85 million. No casualty and injuries were reported.

Exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
