The prestigious Palme d'or d'honneur will be bestowed upon the acclaimed Japanese animation company Studio Ghibli at the 77th Cannes Film Festival from May 14 to 25.

"I am really honored and happy that the studio receives the Palme d’or d’honneur," says Toshio Suzuki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli. "J’en thanks the Cannes Film Festival from the bottom of his heart."

Toshio adds: "Forty years ago, Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, and I created Studio Ghibli with the desire to offer high-level and high-quality animation films to children and adults of all ages.

"Today, spectators from all over the world can see our films, and many visitors go to the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka and Ghibli Park to discover the universe of our films. We have come a long way to make Studio Ghibli so important.

"Although Miyazaki and I have grown older, I am confident that Studio Ghibli will continue to take on new challenges under the leadership of teams that will perpetuate the enterprise's spirit. I would be delighted if you would continue to be interested in our achievements."

"Like all cinema icons, these characters populate our imaginations with colorful and abundant universes and sensitive and committed narratives. With Ghibli, the cinema of ’animation Japanese lives like one of the great adventures of cinephilia, between tradition and modernity."
