Cavite under state of calamity due to pertussis outbreak


CAVITE – The province of Cavite is now under a state of calamity due to the outbreak of pertussis or whooping cough, as stated in Resolution No. 3050-2024 passed by the Provincial Board in a special session on Wednesday, March 27.

As of March 25, 36 cases of pertussis have been recorded in Cavite, including six deaths.

The whooping cough cases were recorded in Bacoor City, Trece Martires City, General Trias City, General Mariano Alvarez, Carmona City, Silang, Dasmariñas City, Kawit, Imus City, Cavite City, Tagaytay City, and General Emilio Aguinaldo.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council held an emergency meeting on March 27 and recommended the Provincial Board declare a state of calamity.

The resolution authorizes Gov. Jonvic Remulla to utilize P40 million from the Quick Response Fund of the 2024 Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund to respond to the calamity.
