BIR: Taxpayers can apply for digital TIN IDs 24/7

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) said that individuals can obtain their digital taxpayer identification number (TIN) IDs online at no charge, any day of the week.

In a statement, BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr. said that taxpayers no longer need to physically visit the Revenue District Offices (RDO) and wait in line to obtain their TIN.

Lumagui said they can now conveniently apply for it from the comfort of their homes or offices.

He added that the digital TIN ID is free and not for sale.

“The issuance of the Digital TIN ID via ORUS [Online Registration and Update System] is part of the BIR’s continuous efforts to pursue digital innovation to improve the delivery of taxpayer service,” the bureau said.

“By providing a convenient online access to taxpayers that is available 24/7, the process of securing a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) was streamlined and made easier,” it added.

The digital TIN ID is an official government-issued identification document that enables taxpayers to conduct transactions with various government agencies, local government units, employers, banks, financial institutions, among others.

While the digital TIN ID does not necessitate a signature, its legitimacy can be verified online through the Online Registration Update System (ORUS) by simply scanning the Quick Response (QR) Code displayed on the ID.

Individual taxpayers who already possess a TIN, whether or not they have a physical TIN Card, can request a Digital TIN ID by first enrolling in ORUS at https://orus.bir.gov.ph.

Taxpayers holding an existing TIN must update their email addresses by submitting a completed BIR Form S1905 via email to their respective Revenue District Office (RDO) or through the BIR's Taxpayer Registration Related Application (TRRA) Portal accessible on the BIR Website at www.bir.gov.ph.

As of March 25, the BIR has issued 102,046 Digital TIN IDs through ORUS.

“Reaching the 100,000 mark for Digital TIN IDs issued by the BIR shows our effort to promote Excellent Taxpayer Service and expand our digital services to taxpayers,” Lumagui said.
